Youth Convention Logistics and Details
| Delegate v. Youth Convention Participant | The youth convention is a parallel event to JACL National Conference. Youth participants will be introduced to convention but will NOT be delegates. If your youth participant is attending as a delegate, they will not have the time to participate in the youth convention. |
| Age Range | The Youth Convention is designed for ages: 14-25 (High School, College and Post College) |
| Hotel Accommodations | Special hotel accommodations are being arranged to mitigate the price of booking. The pricing can be found on the registration page. 3 nights is $120, and 4 nights is $160. **There may be confusion in booking your room with the hotel. Staff will insure that you are given a phone call to work out your specific rooming situation. |
| Transportation | We have not yet confirmed transportation to and from the airport. We will update the website as soon as we know. No transportation is necessary once the participants are at the convention. Bus transportation will be provided to the various site visits. |
Youth Convention Activity Spotlights!
Convention Mentorship Session
An exciting addition to this year’s convention youth activities is the convention mentorship session. Youth participants will be paired with a JACL chapter delegate and take part in the decision-making process of the JACL National Council. Participants will learn how resolutions are debated and passed (or defeated) and ultimately how the organization makes decisions and sets its course as a national civil rights organization.
Convention Youth Luncheon (Vision Awards Luncheon)
Each year, the JACL National Youth/Student Council selects an individual who serves as an inspiration and role model to API youth. The 2008 honoree will be introduced and recognized at the exciting and inspiring Vision Award Luncheon. Youth participants are invited to attend and meet the convention delegates as well as the Vision Award recipient.
Session with Astronaut Dan Tani
This year, youth convention participants will get the unique oppotrunity to meet the Japanese American Astronaut Daniel Tani. Dan will chare his experiences as an astronaut in an informal setting with the youth.
